Kermit the Frog was originally introduced in the 1950s on Jim Henson's experimental show Sam and Friends, but he gained widespread popularity as a lead character on Sesame Street (1969) and later The Muppet Show (1976-1981). Kermit is perhaps best known for his role as the host of The Muppet Show, where he kept the chaotic antics of the Muppets somewhat under control with his trademark catchphrase, "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" Despite his calm demeanor, Kermit frequently found himself caught up in the Muppets' zany behavior, which often left him frustrated but never defeated.
